My new PowerEdge 2800 has two 36 GB SCSI drives on RAID 1 and 3-300 GB with RAID 5.

For some reason Dell created a logical drive on the 36 GB drive and I have a 12 GB "C" and a 21.7 GB "E" drive. I have nothing on this E drive. Using disk management, can I just delete the logical drive and it will automatically become part of the "C" drive?

You can delete the E: drive but you can't make it part of the C: drive without additional tools I'm afraid.

Something like Symantec Volume manager or Paragon Partition Manager might do it.

However if it is a new server why not just blow it away and start over, won't take that long.

I just called Dell on this as I am in the same boat and it can be deleted but as ntinlin said you will not be able to combine it to the C: drive without a 3rd party software package.

The Dell tech suggested that you can just keep this E: drive and install any extra software here as it will be on the mirror acting in the same manner if the C: drive was the full 36 GB.

Try the command line utility called "diskpart". I have used to extend a basic disk in 2003 but have not tried to extend a boot partition. It is free, does not appear to be destructive and only takes a few minutes to use.

Thanks for all your help. I think I will follow what the Dell rep suggested.
