Question:
When I delete a very large file, say a 2 Gigabyte file, under NetWare or Unix the operation completes in a matter of seconds.
When I delete a very large file under WinNT or Win2K it takes a very long time. Like 30 or 40 minutes. This includes using SHIFT-DELETE so the OS does not try to use the recycle bin. The same type of enormous delay occurs when using a command prompt.
Does anyone know what the heck is WinNT / Win2K / NTFS doing that makes this simple operation so INCREDIBLY slow?
Pete
