Hey

I resently deleted a user from AD and it asked me if I wish to delete the user's mailbox... which I did. But now I need it back again.

I have gone into the exchange system manager and it is there. When I try to reconnect the mailbox, it gives me an error because it can no longer find the user that it is trying to reconnect to.

I need to open up the mailbox to retreive the contacts. I have tried using powercontrols, which will let me go straight into the mailbox, but this can not open it either.

Is there a way for me to reconnect it to another user? or just to be able to get all the contacts?

I am using exchange 2000, on a 2000 domain.

HEEELLLLPPPPP!!!!

Thanks in advance

I have ran the clean up agent... I think that the problem is that I have created a new user with the exact same name.

I am just about to delete the new user that I setup with the new name, and try and re-connect the old mailbox.

When I run the clean up agent it runs fine, but then when I click connect a get an error with the ID of c1038af7.

Any advise would be great!

Are you getting an event in your even viewer for this too?

(Start + Run + eventvwr + Click OK)

Check the Application log... I suspect you're right about creating a new user under the same name, but Exchange should still prompt you to choose a user account from the domain to connect the mailbox to.

Yea, that doesn't look good at all.

I believe however you can run EXMerge to get the contents out of the mailbox so you might try that. It does allow you to extract the contents of mailboxes on the server directly...

Just wanted to let you all know, that I moved everything from the current mailbox to a pst file, deleted the new user and mailbox, then exchange would let me reconnect the old one, then I just moved the contacts from the old one to a pst file. Then I created a brand new account, and brought the contacts from the pst file into the mailbox.

Job done.

Thanks for the help guys....

How did you get into the mailbox to do that, or are you saying you deleted the 2nd account and mailbox you created which matched the username from before? Had I realized you created both an account and mailbox that matched the username and mailbox from before I think I could have been of more help to you :)

Well, at least it all worked out!

you are correct... I deleted the 2nd account that match the username and alias of the first account...
