I have an Exch 2000 server and for some reason everytime I reboot it, like after an offline backup, I start to receive calls that old mail shows up in some peoples mailboxes. Today I had to restart the SMTP service on this server and the same thing happened. From what the users that this happens too tell me they are usually a week or so old. I have searched around, but have been unable to find any documentation on it. It's like some of the log files are being recommited. The weirdest thing is that its not happening to everyone. I'm on the same e-mail server and it's never happened to me. Also I don't have very many log files in the MDBDATA folder, I just looked and there are 4 all with today's date.

Possible database corruption. Try running eseutil /g to see if you database pages are ok, and then run ISInteg (with approprite switches) to see if mailboxes are ok.

See MS KB info on both of these utilities.

Beware!!! This may take hours depending on the size of DB and spees of your server. Also, you may need some extra space for your temp files.
