deleted items.dbx file still large eventhough..??

The file in \app data\identities\88f*****\microsoft\outlook express

I have deleted all the items in the deleted items in outlook express and even outlook and it shows the size of the file (deleted Items) is 49.2 mb. The modified date and time correspond each time I have deleted items in the folder. I have defraged also. What am I missing?, thanks

In OE, right click on the the deleted items folder, Properties, somewhere in there you need to find a button for compact or compact now (or something like that).

I certainly won't disagree with the fact that compacting folders make them smaller but I wonder why you want to save deleted messages. Wouldn't it be easier to go to tools>options>maintenance and select empty deleted folder on exit. If you need to save certain messages then create appropraitely named folders and use the move to button to save them.
