Hello - I am getting short on free space on my c:\ drive in our NT 4.0 SP6 server and have identified the following files and\or programs which I think I to need to either delete for the c:\ drive or move them to the d:\ drive and if I move them can I just copy them over or should I use uninstal and instal them again on d:?

I could take a pretty good guess on most but as long as I need to ask the question I thought I would be safe and ask for all.

**c:\Mssql - [ 85m mb ] no modify since 1997 - service not started - I guess we don't use this [whatever it is] = I am assuming it is at least OK to copy to d:\ then uninstall?

**c:\mvserver - [ 21 mb ] no modify since 1997 - same as mssql ?

**c:\programfiles\commonfiles\network associates\virus scan engine\4.0xx - [ 5.0 mb ] no modify since June\01 - I have no idea what happened to it then even unless I was just looking - no virus scans happening which seems to be working so can I get rid of this?

**c:\program files\commonfiles\symantec shared\virus defs - [ 15.5 mb ] no modify since 1999 - delete ??

** c:\pf\comfiles\navnt - [ 10.1 mb ] no modify since 1999 - no scans - move or delete??

**c:\programfiles\pvsw - [ 82.5 ] server engine for Maximizer & Accpac - can this be moved to d:\ - as I write this about pvsw I feel a potential nightmare arising so maybe this would not be a priority to move

**c:\smallbusiness\client\ms\ie - [114 mb ] nothing since 1997 - ie4 is the last zipfiles [tons of zips here] - there is no internet working on the server and I don't miss it - with NT SP6 I just downloaded it to my PC and moved it to the server for set up so at this point don't see why I even need ie ... this folder is 114 mb - if it can't or shouldn't be deleted can it be moved to d:\ ??

**c:\smallbusiness\clients\ms\ntsp3 - [42.1 mb ] - I have installed sp6 which I understand includes all the fixes in previous versions so logic would seem to dictate I can delete or uninstall this but wanted to check ..

**c:\winnt.sbs\user.dmp - [13,375kb ] no modify since june 12 02 - I don't know what this file is or what put it there [unless it is a product of the server crashing and rebooting itself which did happen a few times] - can I delete it

**c:\winnt.sbs\memory.dmp [130,676 kb] no modify since Aug 12\98 - is there any reason why I can't just delete it??

**c:\winnt.sbs\$ntservicepackuninstall$ - [58.3 mb] - can I get rid of this or move it ??

Thanks in advance for any help on this .

Regards

Ron

**c:\Mssql

Uninstall it. It will be the MSSQL Server I daresay (which if the services are stopped, then I doubt you're using it).

**c:\mvserver

No idea what it is. Does something along that name show up in add/remove programs? If not, you can probably move it to the D:
**c:\programfiles\commonfiles\network associates\virus scan engine\4.0xx

Are you running a virus scanner? (Which one? This directory is for McAfee)
Is there a McAfee Virus Scanner in the systray?
Uninstall it if you can (and aren't using it).

**c:\program files\commonfiles\symantec shared\virus defs -

Yep. Delete em.

** c:\pf\comfiles\navnt - [ 10.1 mb ] no modify since 1999 - no scans - move or delete??

Move it for safety, just in case..

**c:\programfiles\pvsw

The Pervasive Software engine you'd need to uninstall and reinstall to the D:\. You won't be able to simply "move" it.

**c:\smallbusiness\client\ms\ie

Uninstall if you can, move if you can't.

**c:\smallbusiness\clients\ms\ntsp3

You should be safe to delete this.

**c:\winnt.sbs\user.dmp

This can be deleted.

**c:\winnt.sbs\memory.dmp

This can be deleted.

**c:\winnt.sbs\$ntservicepackuninstall$ - [58.3 mb] - can I get rid of this or move it ??

You can delete it, it's just a backup of your files prior to you last service packing. Note deleting this will mean you can't roll back the last service pack.

Note: I'd make a full backup of your server before moving/deleting stuff, just in case. [auto] MCSE NT4/W2K

Thank you dhawthorn - I will pull the majority of these over to my PC just in case and either uninstall or delete them from the server. I hope to do this tomorrow night.

Thank you very much for the advice.
