delete transaction log

what is the correct procedure to delete a transaction log...i am running sql 2000...

You can't delete the Transaction Log. It is required. However, if you mean "How Do I Remove Records From the Transaction Log" or "How Do I Shrink the Transaction Log" see faq183-1534.

yes..i meant truncate or shrink the transaction log...the simple solution that worked for now was to dettach the db then delete the transaction log then reattach the db and create an empty transaction log...the reason for this is because my trans log grows to 45 gbs on a daily basis...probably mostly to bad sql techniques but none the less it has become a problem
