delete recurring event in shared calendar

how do I, as the system administrator, delete an old recurring event from a shared calendar?

In exchange system manager, I browsed to the shared calendar, went to properties and then made sure I had full control of the folder (I'll change back once I get this deleted) to delete this one event but that didn't work.

Any suggestions??

In ESM, grant yourself OWNER client permissions. Then kill it in Outlook.

I granted myself OWNER permissions (delete and edit are both set to all, and everything is checked). I was still not able to kill it in outlook though

any more suggestions please?

Do you get an error message? Anything in the event logs?

Outlook error was:
The item could not be deleted. It was either moved or already deleted, or access was denied.

Nothing in the event logs though

Download the mfcmapi tool from MS and use it to open the user's calendar. You can definitely delete it using this utility. You may need to do a quick read on how to navigate the screens.
