I installed Exchange 2003 on a Windows 2003 Server. I called the Exchagne server, Exchange. I had problems with that HDD so had to reinstall on a new HDD. After installing Windows 2003 and Exchange on the new HDD I called the machine, Exchange2. Now I have a problem that when I try to set up a mail account to point to this server it is only finding the old server name (This server no longer exists!!!) Also in system manager if I go into Admin groups > First Admin Group > Servers, the old server is sat in there.

Firstly why can I still see the old server. The HDD I installed exchange on is not in the machine anymore. I need to remove this entry from System Manager. I new to Excnahge to dont know where to start really.

Many thanks in advance

It is probably picking it up from AD.

If you go to AD sites and services then open the services portion you'll see an entry for AD. Your old server will probably be listed there.

As to removing it you should just be able to right click on the server in system manager and do remove.

Check your Recipient Update Services and OAL generator first though. If they are pointing to the old server change them to the new one.

Note that while I've deleted and reinstalled a 2nd server I've not tried deleting the first server like this.

If it gets very screwed up there is an option with XC setup, something like setup.exe /remove, which will get rid of all XC entries from AD and you can start over with forestprep, domainprep etc.

Cheers Neill, I just removed the Server from AD sites and Services and then System Manager only gives the option for the new server.

Many thanks again. Have you got any pointers for walk through guides for config of XC 2003.

Cheers

Neilll,

Probably a totally stupid question but do i need to add the role of Mail Server to Win2k3 or is everything handled in XC 2003.

cheers

Nope. XC2003 does it all. You do need to have SMTP and IIS installed on the host server though which I would imagine you already have, XC would complain if you didn't.
