Definity - "Automatic Moves" feature question 1

On our G3si V11, there is a field on page two of the station change screen that says "Automatic Moves". I have read somewhere that this lessens administrative overhead by allowing an end-user to move their own phone. We use the serialized 64xx terminals and have the feature switch active so I know the switch supports it... a couple questions though:

- I tried swapping two serialized stations without x-ing the ports out first and it didn't work. Each station remained assigned to its respective port. Does the port i'm moving to need to be x'ed out first?

- Am I missing another option that needs to be turned on? We do have Customer Telephone Activation enabled within System Parameters -> Features.

- Can this option really allow two stations to be swapped without any administrative overhead? If so, how?

Thanks for any insight.

We do have TTI, but have had issues with people mistakenly TTI'ing their phone to another extension, which results in a trouble ticket.

It would be great to be able to just tell the end-user "Pick up your phone and take it to where it needs to be and plug it back in".

I have used this successfully with my 6400 series serialized phones. I do not have to X-out the port before the move.

Some items to check: TTI must be enabled and the TTI State field must be set to VOICE. (I'm sure that's already done!)

On the station screen (second page) the field for Automatic Moves should be set to either ONCE or ALWAYS. The default is NONE. I set mine to ONCE, since I want to make sure that I'm aware of all phone moves. Once the move is successful, the status will change to DONE (if successful) or ERROR (if not successful).

You can use the command list stat move for more information about the stations that have be moved, etc.

The Administration manual makes a reference to a limit on the number of phones that can be on the Move list. Use DISP CAPACITY for the limit (page 7); ours is 5000.

Note: Customer Telephone Activiation (CTA) does not have anything to do with the Automatic Moves feature. CTA allows you to use #* to automatically activate a telephone after administration. In other words, using #*XXXX to activate a phone to a specific port if it is already in an X-port state. Kinda like the second half of a TTI move.

Hope this helps......let me know if you need any more information.

Am I missing something? It sounds like it worked.

I could be wrong but I thought that type of 0 admin change was designed so the user could change jacks not ports. e.g. user moves from jack 1 to jack 35. All they have to do is unplug their phone & plug it in at the new jack. That would keep the same port number, button programming etc.

When I use the Automatic Move feature, the port address changes on the successful moves.
