Can some of you break down the clocking for me on a T-1 card, for instance when I would use Primary, Secondary and master. How do you know what is right for the premise, and do you normally clock off of the CO? Specifically for a PRI.

Thank you, I love these forums!

pri and sec doesnt make any difference if you have only one T1/PRI.
dont use master if you get a T1/PRI from a phone company - they provide the master clock

Thanks, so should I always use secondary? Also what about primary?

I think you would only use primary if you had a T-1 between PBX's. One side would be primary, the other secondary.

clarification/ correction to kodr's answer

pri - for first T1/PRI from CO
sec - for 2nd T1/PRI from CO

Master - master in a Pt- to Pt link
the other end will be pri or sec

Senk1s,

We are having intermittent problems with "remote page" between our 2 sites that are hooked up via Frame Relay (tie lines). Corporate 7.0, remote 6.1MR3.

Incoming fractional T1 to corporate timing is Primary. Link to remote site is Secondary.

Remote site, timing is set to Primary.

Given that this is not a direct point-to-point, is Primary the correct setting, or should the remote site be set to Master ?

We are not having any problems with calls between the facilities -- just the remote page (actually, LINK) working every now & then.

Thanks

yes ideally the remote should be master - in a pt to pt.
If the calls are working fine, then it should not be a clocking issue

Is there a mux/ channel bank/ csu ...in between the norstars providing clocking? - if yes, leave the settings as they are

We have CISCO IAD's, which seperate the voice & data.

Between the 2 locations, we have 20 channels dedicated to data, and 4 to voice.

As I mentioend, the voice calls are fine. So, if it isn't broken... ;-)

Thanks
