Trunk slots default to loop-start lines. If there is a PRI enabler keycode installed it will be eliminated. Hopefully you have the original keycode written down so it can be reinstalled.
This customer wants to use LOOP lines instead of the PRI. Let me ask you. In this carrier I have a fiber card for the station module and then there is the card that the PRI plugs into.
I have a 25 pair AMP with 24 LOOPs plugged into the carrier. I can not seem to get dial tone to the station sets there is another system already installed with POTS lines and I get dial tone at the station sets just fine.
Do I need to install analog loop cards into the carrier for example 8 ports trunk cards or will just plugging the AMP cable into the port with the Telephone Pole icon allow me to pull dial tone.
What cards should be in what slots for this carrier?
The carrier that has LOOP already connected has a RELEASE card and ( 2 ) DS cards. This carrier does not has never had T1 service in it.
I know the RELEASE card is the software what ar ethe two DS cards for? There is one more available slot next to the DS cards. No other modules are connected to this carrier.
Each DS card allows 4 loop-start trunks. Slot 4 is lines 001-004, and slot 3 is lines 025-028 (or 031-034) depending on software level. You must install 2 DS cards to be able to access all 8 trunks. The digital line card must be replaced with a DS card and then the slot must be reconfigured in Hardware for a loop card instead of PRI. The slot must be disabled in Maintenance before you can change the card type, then enabled after changes have been made.
If you do not have the actual PRI keycodes written down then I would not default the system. Go into Hardware and Line programming to change to Loop start lines. Because if you default the system without the codes and want to go to PRI in the future then you will have to buy new codes.
If the customer already had their PRI enabled and for some reason it becomes disabled is there not a registry from Norstar that would confirm that the customer already paid for that PRI card to be enabled?
If you have the original system ID and auth code, then it may/should be retrievable. But, I wouldn't depend on Nortel to keep track of keycodes - that's like asking Microsoft to keep track of your Windows XP product key. I always give the keycode list and auth codes to the customer to file away for future reference.
The more important question in my opinion is why would they want to go from PRI to analog. Even for our small offices most of the LECs are giving integrated T1s with voice and data on the same circuit. They can give you the voice channels as PRI or Analog even if it is only 4 lines. Then you can have multiple DIDs on top of that. In our market the price is basically the same either way and we are much happier with the functionality of Target Lines vs. Analog Lines.
YEs, I agree they needed to keep the T1 however this customer tried to do a self install, ordered a PRI and could not do the rest. Then when I came on the scene to get them out of a jam I found that the office building they were in did not a single conduit available from the 1st floor demarc to the second floor office suite.
So they could not not run a CAT-5 from the T1 ( which telco would only locate in the 1st floor demarc ) to their switch on the 2nd floor. Switch could not be located in the 1st floor utility closet either. They had been out of service since theri move for almost 2 weeks. Hence emerg.. They only immediate answer was to convert the T into channelized analog lines that could be run over the only exisitng 25 pair into the 2nd floor suite.
That is the story. Now they are short the 16 lines because I have to expand their switch since it will only handle 2 DS cards.
I told them it woudl have been better to pay for conduit but they would not listen and now they have to pay on the other side to get all 24 working.
They probably lost more in sales from not having phones for 2 weeks and paying employees to use their cell phones during all this.
I've extended T-1 circuits over 25 pair cables before. Put transmit on one binder, receive on another and typically it works fine. The circuit goes through a lot worse wire than that between the CO and the customer premise.
