Sorry if this question sounds dumb. I have Word installed but somehow when I open a new document it opens a letter I typed out a couple of months ago, could I have accidently set this document as a default and if so how do I correct it
Thanks in advance
Andy

Do a search for a file named normal.dot
Delete it.

When you next open Word, it will re-create this template file... minus your old letter.

Thanks for your assistance. If you have time how was this caused (for future ref):)

You're quite welcome. How you did it? I'm not really sure.

ACK! I can't believe TwistedAdmin told you to delete your Normal.dot file without first asking you a few IMPORTANT questions, like: Are there any template documents or macros or button rows you've created in the past taht you'd like to keep? Erasing Normal.dot erases all of those and more.
Before erasing Normal.dot, you should always put a copy of it somewhere, just in case erasing it causes other problems.
As for how your default page got changed: It sounds like you typed a letter and saved it as a template instead of a document. Worse, it sounds as if you saved is as "Normal.dot", which would then open every time you clicked the "New" button. There are several other possiblities but it would take too long to cover them. Just be careful how you save your docs, and read any warning messages carefully. :)

Hmmm...I'm kind of with TwistedAdmin here, though renaming is better. People who *use* their normal.dot in such a manner are usually aware of the ramifications of deleting it, however, I do prefer telling them to rename the file to abnormal.dot. In the event they come back to tell you something is now missing, you can use the Organizer to copy macros, toolbars, etc. I have no idea what other document templates would have to do with it though.

:)

Anyway. More on normal.dot:

Dreamboat,

thanks for the backup. :) And yes, renaming would have been a better suggestion, thanks. But I was thinking from a Windows XP perspective, where I've got one normal.dot under each profile in 'Documents & Settings'.

TwistedAdmin
