Default value on joined fields

I have 2 tables joined using the left outer join. Instead of returning blank fields from the right table where there is no match on the join is it possible to return a default value?

Create a formula similar to the following.

if isnull({field.from.right.side}) then "defaultvalue"
else {field.from.right.side} Mike
