I'm familiar with the NORMAL.DOT file as the default template when opening a new Word document. But I notice that my MS Word 2002 (version 10.4...) does not have a normal.dot file. Can anyone clue me in as to what template is used? My Word works fine so it's not like there's a problem or something, just curious.

To-date, ALL versions of Word have a normal.dot file.

Either you are in Windows XP, which hides normal.dot as a system/hidden file and you need to change your viewing options, or you have not launched Word and saved any doc file with it yet.

Why don't you tell us what's wrong?

Thank you Dreamboat for your quick response. I did have my folder viewing option set for viewing system/hidden folders, but neglected to select the advanced feature of Search for hidden and system files. I did find the file in the C:\Settings and Documents\...\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates folder, but I was expecting to find it in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033 folder.

Nothing is wrong, just had a customer who we thought may have had a corrupted normal.dot file, but this was not the case.
