Any way to edit this guy? The modify button is greyed out if you view its properties in System Manager. Seems to be the suggested practice on the web is to create a new list.

What users appear... I would like to remove users that have left an organization, but we haven't yet deleted from Exchange.

Thanks for replying.

Sorry, can not find how to do. Try msexchange.org

Matt, is 'Hide from Exchange Address Lists' what you need?

I'll take that, where do I find that option?

It is a checkbox in AD - Users and ...
Double click the user(s) in question and go to the Exchange Advance Tab, check the 'Hide from address lists' box, that's all.

Not finding that one, perhaps that's on 2003? I figured that's where you were referring, but I don't even have that tab. There are 3 exchange tabs, that option does not appear on any of them.

O, I see what it is.
Yes it is 2000, not 2003

In AD, click View - and select Advanced Features, it will be there then !

What i don't understand is why you talk about removing email adresses from someone who is leaving the company.

Did you think you can remove the exchangebox by hiding it?

That was not the point. It is common practice to leave a mailbox intact, but hidden, for a while, to intercept any email from customers still coming in.
Personally, I would not do that, but that is each IT guy's choice.

Well you could remove the user (security reasons) and add the smtp adres to another individual account like a coworker or something so it's mail can be answered and the receiver could be informed about the coworker leaving the company..

..and yes it's an opinion but hided adresses will be often forgotten.. that's the reason of my post.

You can perfectly leave the mailbox, but disable the user from logon, like changing the password, no access etc. , so that part is not a security issue.
Assigning an address to another user is a potential privacy breach, or could lead to misuse by that person, so that is to be avoided at all times.

And a good IT guy does not 'forget' ;-)

It was requested of me by the owner of a client of mine, to leave the logon account intact as well as the ability for the corresponding exchange account to continue to receive e-mail, yet he did not want the user's name to appear in the global address list. So, despite what you, I, and everyone else thinks, this is what the guy requested. That's why I posted the question.
