Hello

Not sure if this is the correct forum, but here goes.

Our users have a default email address defined and a number of additional alias SMTP address created. The problem is that if an email is sent to an external address and an internal address the external recipient see's a different email address than the default one for the internal recipient. Make sense?

Is there a way in Exchange or Outlook to ensure that external emails only show the default email address for any internal recipients defined by the sender?

Thanks

Let me make sure I understand what you're saying.

In your recipient policy, you have some email addresses specified:

@domain1.com
@domain2.com

A user sends an email to an external recipient, and it says
joe@domain1.com

the same user sends an email to an internal recipient, and it says
joe@domain2.com?

Correct. The recipient policy has three SMTP address's and one X400, with one of the SMTP address's as the default. However, the default one is not displayed when emails are sent externally.

It appears that one of the three SMTP address's can be displayed for different users, but when one is 'picked' for a user it doesn't change.

I hope this makes sense!!

Thanks

More info.

I've run the command

dsquery user -name "username" | dsget user -email

and it returns the default email address for that user even though the address appears differently when set externally.

I set the default address to another in the list and ran the above command again and it showed the new default address.
