Hi, does anyone know how to set the default file location for attachments?
Currently it defaults to "personal" - all our files are on a shared drive, and it would make sense for the default to be set to that.
Any clues chaps?
BTW we're using Outlook 2000
thanks

It is set in the registry under HKEY Current User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

the Personal string value is what you want to edit to the path of your choice. joegz

hi, thanks for that, however I have a slight problem in that it doesn't seem to work on a network drive, which is where our documents are held.
Is there a way to set this - do we have to use a UNC, or a mapped drive letter (we've tried this and neither seems to work...)
Many thanks

What OS are you using? I think it makes a difference if for W2K is being used vs. Win 9x. joegz

currently we're on NT4 - we will shortly be moving to w2k - both server and desktop, but not until the end of the year - is there any way to do it now, or do I have to wait until the migration?
again, thanks

I have tested this from here and it works fine on WinNT either to the local drive or network location. The only difference is I am using Outlook 98 on WinNT.

I did notice on Outlook 2000 though (which I am running on W2K) that it does do something peculiar which may be deceiving you that it is not working. It does default to the set folder I specified in the registry but the "SAVE IN" field in the window lists the wrong folder. On W2K for instance it still says "My Documents" even though I am not actually in that folder by looking at the data contents displayed.

So even though it says Personal in your "Save In" field are you certain the contents window is actually that of the Personal folder or instead of your specified folder?

(By the way I am just specifying the drive letter and then the folder) joegz

There is a program called OLDefPath. Download this and it will allow you to set a default location to open every time you go to attachments. Good program.
