I don't know coldfusion but it looks like I'm about to learn it. I'm updating the design of a site for a company which has a large database, but all the code is encrypted. Is there a free program for decrypting cf.

Second any suggestions on books and sites for some cf knowledge.

Thank you.

I wasn't looking for a crack, just don't know too much about cf and if there was a way to decode it. I know I've a lot coming to learn to program it.

no, thats it, decrypting someone elses code is what we are talking about. Who made the site? CFML is not encrypted unless deliberately done so. if you want to ecrypt and decrpyt your own code, those command line programs come with the CF server software. search google for things like decrypting cfml files.

would decrypting the site conflict with any contractual agreements with the people that made the site the first time around?

The site belongs to the company I work for, the site was created by a programmer with little design skills that used to work here, so I don't see any problems with contractual agreements. Now they want me, a designer with intermediate programming skills, to fix it. I have a decryption demo program that only does one file at a time. It'll do. I don't want to screw anything up for the company by not buying a $70 program.

I had the same problem at one time. One programmer encrypted all his code the last day on the job and no one noticed until a bug was found months latter.

cfdecrypt.exe was great for the CF5 code we had.

Just copy the code to another machine to decrypt it, don't do it on the production server. One file at a time might take a while, you could write a DOS bat file to help instead of retyping the command a bunch of times.
