Following MS Outline for upgrading to Exchange 2000 in 6 steps, all ran smoothly. Public folders and Private folder mailboxes were moved to the new Win2k server without problems about 2 weeks ago. Exchange 5.5 box is still running and appears within Routing Groups as a Member Server with the Internet Mail Services Connector showing. Can I just decommision the 5.5 box via Exchange Administrator 5.5 after deleting the connectors in the Exchange 2000 System Manager? And have Internet e-mail routing continue to work without a problem? In other words, hasn't all SMTP address/info flowed automatically to the new 2k Protocol from the old box during the upgrade, or am I missing something and if so, what else do I need to do?

We turned off our 5.5 server when we thought we were done. There turned out to be a couple of hidden items that we did not move. So, I say turn it off when you think you have everything ready and leave the hardware in place for a couple weeks - just in case. After that remove the connector for it. This worked for us.

jchando,

we completed a migration to E2k a couple of months ago. if everything was done correctly and all your connectors have been removed then, in theory, you should hust be able to shutdown the 5.5 server. I'd leave the 5.5 hardware in place for atleast a week or so to see if any problems do arise. after that go ahead and switch to native mode.
