decktop icons are turning blank

For no aparrent reason our desktop icons located on my windows 2000 server desktops seem to be turning blank. those included are native windows 2000 desktop icons like my computer and also third party icons. Some are still normal but most have a blank white icon. Anyone know why this is happening? (its happening on all three of the servers. - all have latest service packs (SP 4)

Are they just the default icons but do they still function or did they stop functioning as well?

A stab in the dark, try deleting the file shelliconcache and rebooting...but like i said, stab in the dark.

they are just default icons, they still work but they have turned to default icons. unfortunately cant reboot because the servers are running critical systems.
