I'm helping troubleshoot a coworker's home computer, and they're having problems with Outlook Express 6. According to them, they can't click on any hyperlinks in e-mails they receive. Outlook Express marks it correctly as a hyperlink by making the font color blue, but clicking on it doesn't do anything.

Now, I don't actually use Outlook, but this sounds to me like Outlook isn't displaying the e-mail in HTML formatting. Can anyone confirm this? And isn't Outlook Express 6 supposed to ONLY display e-mails in HTML formatting? Regardless, does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this? Thanks in advance...

First question would be does your mouse pointer change when you mouse over the link or does it stay the same? If it does change then it recognizes the link as a URL.

Then what you should do is go to Windows Explorer and then go to TOOLS - FOLDER OPTIONS - FILE TYPES. Look up the file type URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (you can press the letter N as a way to quickly get to the file types listed as N/A which this is assuming your on W2K or later)

Check the command line that is running for this file type. The command should similar to this

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome "%1"

(this all depends if DDE is being used as to how exactly the command line will read) joegz

Joegz,

Duely noted. When I learned of this problem, I also thought maybe there wasn't file type association going on, and that's one thing I intend to check on when I look at the computer tomorrow. I'll post back on Monday if I fix the issue. Thanks for the tip. <<<<[flux]>>>>
