How often should one perform the dbcc shrinkdatabase. I started it last night around 5:00 PM. Its not 11:00 AM the next morning and its still running. Originally the database had a used space of 18561.56 MB and unused of 10018.63 so a total of 28580.19 now its at 14278.69 used, 14301.50 free for a total of 28580.19. It seems like its shrinking. It hasn't been run it a long time so I'm assuming thats why its taking so long. How long should it normally take. We update this data base with our daily sales every morning. Stacy

We shrink our database twice a day. I have scheduled that as a job and it works just fine. In your case you might want to do it more often or identify what causes to grow TempDB to so big and when does that SP/Job occurs and then you can schedule of TempDB shrinking around that.
