Daylight Savings 5

I'm so apprehensive about asking this question, but I think I'll just fall on the sword now and get it over with. Noone seems to be asking/answering the question so perhaps I'm the only one that doesn't "get it", with regard to this time change patch - so here's the question...

Most of the tables in CM or whatever, have time change tables that I can specifically alter to change the daylight savings time to whatever I want. The new daylight savings rule seems to be having us change the time at different intervals so that the impacts of time changes can be studied to quantify the impacts of energy consumption in the US and Canada. So why do I need a patch for this if I can set the date to change to whatever I want?

Apologies in advance for my ignorance.

Not a stupid question. The problem is that most systems are designed to automatically handle the time change. If you do nothing, you need to manually set the time when required and manually reset the time after the automatic change occurs.

For example, if you apply no patches to a system that automatically changes the time for DST you will have to follow these steps on the specific dates:

03/11/2007 Manual: move time ahead 1 hour
04/01/2007 Auto: time moved ahead 1 hour
04/01/2007 Manual: move time back 1 hour to undo prior chg
10/28/2007 Auto: time moved back 1 hour
10/28/2007 Manual: move time ahead 1 hour to undo prior chg
11/04/2007 Manual: move time back 1 hour

For a small number of systems this isn't a problem. Manual changes do not scale up well with an increased number of systems. Lots of room for errors.

In a S8700 CM 1.x system, there is DAYLIGHT SAVINGS RULES table avalable at ASA terminal, can I just simply change the current dates to the new one associated with the new DST rule?

Hi Boot2,

Avaya told me yesterday that chnaging the time using the daylight savings rules page only updates the time in Communications MAnager. It also needs to be updated in Linux, and that is what the patch is for. I patched one of my systems yesterday and the process was easy, took me 5 minutes.

heathersuzanne is right. The patch is for the Linux part of the server. I have put this together if you need help.

Hell, there are no rules here - we're trying to accomplish something.

According to Avaya, "there is no DST patch for S8xx0 running CM 1.x. This software is End of Manufacturer Support. Therefore, if 1.x Communication Manager Software is not upgraded to the latest release, a manual workaround must be used." We currently have no plan for CM upgrade. I have no problem using the "Manual workround" which sets the time manually via S8xx0 Maintenace Web pages, but should "DAYLIGHT SAVING RULES" be some how changed at all, along with the "Type" (Standard/daylight-savings) and "Daylight Saving Rules" in the "set time" form via CM SAT session?

If you are going to maually set the time, then you should turn off DST.

Manual workround would be the last option. Is it possible to automate it just using DAYLIGHT SAVINGS RULES table accessible via ASA (Avaya Site Administration) session? It is currently not used (Type of Time = Standard, not Daylight Savings).

HI I am new to the site.I have changed the DST rule on the Definity which is no problem, but am unsure about the CMS (running R12)Avaya wanted to charge me $4000. to do this so I decided I try it myself and have downloaded the required patches from Avaya, and am now second guessing myself as I have not done this before. Have any of you installed these patches on the CMS? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What version of Definity do you have? Avaya CM1.3 with S8700 is what I was referring to. No plan to patch CMS, manual set planned for now. Thanks!
