Daylight Savings Time change patch for 2007

I just noticed that Microsoft has released a patch to adjust the new start/end dates for daylight savings time in 2007. My question is; on my 2003 AD domian, if I properly pacth my servers, do I also have to patch my work stations? Since all work statinons always automatically sync their clocks with the server, is it necessary to patch them also?

Yes because they pick up the correct time from the domain and not timezone information. You can have servers in 10 timezones getting their time from one domain controller (the server that runs the PDC emulator service)they'll still display the time for their local timezone. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I do need further clarification though. My network is all in one location, not across diferent time zones. Since the time zone is not changing, why should a lack of timezone information concearn me?

It doesn't matter. You do not get the timezone information from the domain controller just the time. If your DC is updated with the patch and your workstations aren't, come March your workstations will still be using the old time and your DC will be up to date so in essence they will be in two different timezones.

If the workstations aren't patched there is a chance that they won't be able to log onto the domain. If the computers think that it is 10am and the workstations think that it is 9am kerbos may not let the user log in as the time will be an hour off. With the default threshold being 15 minutes users could get an error.

Thinking more top level, I'll ask: why the concern, or even thought, about NOT installing an update? If you're using something like WSUS, you can push this out to your workstations and eliminate the concern.
