I have an Access database I've been using for several months, but only access one time per month. When I tried to open it today, I got the error "The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time." I am the only user, nobody else has a copy of this database. I tried creating a new db and importing the objects, but when I select the database to use, I get the same error. I tried copying the entire db into a different location and opening that and I get the same error. Is there anything I can do to retrieve the contents? There has been a lot of work put into this db and I'd hate to have to start from scratch.

One idea.

Have you looked in the folder where you db is located to see if there is a "YourFile.ldb" file? If there is delete it.

Thanks Bubba, but there was no .ldb file. Any other suggestions anyone?

Kelly,

Try linking to the data--just like importing but it's a different menu item. You may be able to get to your data that way.

Also, have you rebooted since running into this trouble?

Hmm, Thanks Jeremy but I had also tried linking and got the same error. And I rebooted. Help! :)

Kelly,

Have you tried downloading JetComp.exe from Micorsoft downloads, and run the app. to repair and compact externally??

Might be worth a crack as it has saved me in the past.

Regards

Ben

Another good suggestion. Thanks, Ben. I have used Jetcomp in the past but it never worked for my problems so I deleted it. I just downloaded it and tried it again and all I got was "Error Compating database." This thing must be royally screwed. I also tried creating a module in a new Access database to import the objects from the old one and it says it runs successfully (returns TRUE) but then there are no objects there! I'm going to go cry now. Thanks for the help..

Kelly,

Search groups.google.com for corrupt databases in the comp.databases.ms-access newsgroup. There are some great tips out there.

If you still can't get it, and it's worth some money to you, track down Peter Miller at PK Solutions. They recover databases for a living.

long long long shot but try opening the file as read only and see if it helps

I had a similar problem last year. could not recover any data from the corrupt DB..even called Microsoft payed $500 for no help at all..ended up restoring from backup.

That could be why they invented backup hu?
