I've got a really small application that we use at the store here, that connects to an MS-SQL Database. Problem I'm finding is that after only about a month or two of operation, the data file is only like 5meg in size, whereas the transaction log is hitting near the 40meg size. Is this normal? Is my application leaving transactions open, and its sitting in the transaction log?

How am I supposed to bring that transaction log down in size? Some sort of nightly maintenance, or what?

GOD I love the smell of NOS in the morning.

Those events and sizes seem perfectly acceptable. The transaction log is going to be growing until you perform a backup, which you should be doing. The more activity you have w/in your DB, ie. adds/deletes/modifies, object creations ..., the more your TLog(Transaction Log) will grow.

Thanks
