Data Types - ODBC Linked Databases Not Right

I'm linking from Access to an ODBC Database with a data structure example below.

FTE(number30,2)
Amount (number30,2)

and when I link the file access interprets it as text.

FTE (text)
Amount (text)

What can I do to correct this problem?
