Emergency Issue:

We are running Coldfusion 6.1 w/ Jrun and suddenly this AM all of our sites stopped seeing their databases.. or more specifically their data sources.

Under the Admin for each site, testing the datasource connections says they are all "OK".

Each site fails! This is the same for any datasource, MS SQL Oracle, etc. Sites are fine just nothing can talk to the database.

Any and all help would be very helpful. Most of our sites use a database so this is a big issue.

Nothing different was changed on the box, WIndows 2003 STandard Edition Server, MX 6.1 with JRun

Thanks to all who can shed some insight. It is as if some upper level is failling... because our network traffic shows the databases and the Web Server are talking when we click verify Databases.

Please help,

David

Sounds like it might be some kind of permissions problem. The admin page might be using a particular username to verify the data sources, but then when you try to access it with a web page, it might use another? First thing, I'd check the permissions and see if that turns anything up.

Next I'd try to re-create a datasource (even though it verified okay) and see if maybe the connection from the cf administrator and the database service got corrupted.

Have you tried rebooting your webserver?

Just some ideas, hope they help,
MG

Problem Solved...

After a SIngle incident call to macromedia for $499 and after 4 hours on the phone... we figured it our...

I sell the answer for $299.. just kidding.

The answer was simple but complicated to come to.

Some how IIS and JRUN where missing the mark in talking to each other.

In IIS, all of the sites were pointing to the wrong .ini file holding the proxy ports to listen on.

In the end I wiped all of IIS Wildcard application mappings out and re-established the connection on at a time.

Somhow all of the sites got poinjted to the same connector:
Jrun4\lib\wsconfig\{x}\jrun_iis6_wildcard.dll

Hope this helps someone someday.

It's times like these that make me happy that I'm running apache. :)

Glad you got it worked out.

neofactor,
thank you for sharing your answer, very good of you! star for you.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

neofactor - This is probably the best answer ever shared here. You paid for it and then helped everyone else by giving it away. Classy. Star for you from here too.

bombboy - I think my star is better... I mean your star is nice, but c'mon... haha.

Seriously.. This is definitely something you should make into a FAQ so that people that consult that first would find their answer.
