Hi everyone
The data sort function is so useful, I want to be able to sort BOTH rows AND columns...... is this possible?

I have faith that someone has discovered the answer :)

All the best
Jim

Hi Jim,

So sort by columns first, then by rows - or vice versa. If you need to do this often, record the steps via the macro recorder and automate the process. Depending on whether your sort ranges are volatile, you may need to edit the macro. If so, post back a copy of the recorded macro and explain what you're trying to achieve with each step.

Cheers

Hi
It's the data sort function I need....
i.e i can set the data sort along the columns and then find specific rows that contain results i'm looking for....
but then i also want to data sort along the rows and find specific columns.....
I currently don't see how to do that (the second part).
Thanks
Jim

Hi Jim,

I take it you haven't found the option to change the sort orientation from vertical to horizontal. I've just upgraded to Office 2007, so the process of accessing it is a bit different to what it's been for some years, but I believe you'll find it under Data|Sort|Options.

Cheers

Hey I'm really sorry....

It would help if I used the correct word!!!

Data FILTER

That's what I want to do......
the rest is correct.... I want to be able to filter BOTH rows and columns......

Here's hoping...
Sorry for any time wasted!
Jim

Hi,

Sounds to me like you are looking for a LOOKUP in a table.

Check out VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, INDEX, MATCH.

FILTER only works on columns, filtering out certain ROWS based on column headings. There is no feature to filter out COLUMNS based on a row heading.

Skip,
