I have been setting up Microsoft Data Protection Manager 2007 (DPM) as a possible replacement for our existing backup software and so far what I see I like. Its configured to backup all the different types of data we have and has been reliabily doing it since we started the test. My question is about the final step I need to setup... offsite backups. Currently we run our backup in the old program and then early in the morning a Tivoli system offsite backups up the container files created by the other program. Since setting up DPM I now get the following error message when I start the TSM GUI or from the command line version.

The error that shows up is:
ANS1990W The '\\server\c$\program files\microsoft dpm\dpm\volumes \shadowcopy\server2.domain.com\file system\m-0a1efdd-
bc97-11dc-8075-806e6f6e6963' volume mount point can not be accessed. The TSM return code is '131'.

The only option for the error is to click OK. This type of message appears for each of the volumes created for the Protection Groups in DPM. Once I am past all the errors I am able to use the TSM as normal but if I try to drill down to the mount point location I am able to see the mount point itself but nothing inside it. I know the mount point is good since I am able to enter it and continue down to the files when viewing it through Windows Explorer.

Has anyone used a TSM system to backup their DPM backups? If so what do I need to do to make this happen?

What you are experiencing is that the DPM application have the files locked, and the TSM Client is not able to backup the file due to the lock.

OFS will not work since this is only for files that are open and in use.

Locked files two soltions:
1. Stop the application that is accessing the file.
2. Exclude the file from being backed up.

I know both solution are not good.

Good Luck
