We are in the process of creating a Data Warehouse which will involve data in Tera Bytes. Client's requirement is to use SQL 2K as the RDBMS. Can any one tell me as to which is the Data Model we shall use (star/ Snow Flake etc) and why?
well, it depends on your data warehouse, some times you have to use both the models, as you said your data warehouse will be in t bytes so i think you might need to use all the models, it just depends on your analysis and desiging of your data warehouse.
There is a distinction, in my view, from the size of the data warehouse and the model you choose; they are mutually exclusive.
I have developed schemas that use a pure Star Schema, that are several hundred gig in size. The business reporting requirements is the key driver in my opinion.
You also have to consider the data, that should go without saying!
And as kisleo rightly suggests you can have a mixture of many. Performance, data and reporting will all play a part in the design.
