Your Al Meyers Kid..You Look Pretty Stupid To me.

This may be a drive head problem. How old is the drive? I would:

1. clean the drive according to the user manual or manufacturer recommendation
2. use new media

If this still fails, check with Exabyte (or the company that repackaged the drive) for a utility to test the drive.

I get the same error on backup exec 8.6 with a sony SDX-D500C drive. SONY wasn't too helpful but after two online sessions I got the following info.

Download their drive diagnostic utility. (SONY Tape Utility)
Check out the testing tab. Don't upgrade the firmware unless you have a good reason to do so.

Also look at this link for a generic troubleshooting guide to CRC errors.

This will save you time looking for the same information and will put you in the right direction.

Good luck

I was having the same error for some time and tried many of the solutions suggested by Veritas and Dell. After replacing the SCSI controller, drivers, and controller BIOS settings, I finally replaced all SCSI cables, and I get no more errors! None of the event id codes indicated the cable, rather, they indicated that the drive needed to be cleaned (Dell even replaced the drive). This may be the cheaper solution to your problem, but even Veritas says there could be multiple reasons for the problem. Check their knowledgebase.

thnx all for the help.
i have a post in a other group too.
and they have found the solution for me.
this helps me out!
thnx

thnx jesperrim for your help too.

thnx too you it works now.
i go in devices to the "sony 1"
and then to properties to configuration and then i set the
block size on 32K
and buffer size on 256K
then i tried a new backup and it's working.
now he counts the bytes. i hope i can restore without any problems!

thank allot!!!
strange that i couldn't find anything about this on the veritas site.
