D-Link DI-704 Cable/DSL problem

I wanted to know if it was possible to disable the "firewall" on the D-Link DI-704 Cable/DSL gateway. When I am on AOL Instant Messneger and i try to directly connect to the persons computer that has a network(Linksys router) the AOL message comes up and says "...If you and your buddy are each behind a different firewall, then the connection will not work..." IS there a way to connect with the other person through my network?
