Hello everyone,

I have a T43 with 1.5GB of RAM but since 2 days I cant use my DVD burner or any USB device as it keeps giving a message that, D or (E) is not Accessible, Access is deined"...It started doing on its own and the only new software / upgrade that I can think of is Windows Media Player and Windows Defender...

It does the drives in My Computer but doe snot recognize them...I have tried several CDS/DVDs so its not the media...

I would appreciate any help as I cant even backup my data in order to restore it back to Factory Settings...

I would suggest roll back to a pre windows media player and MS defender restore point. Check out your drives. If they then work again, reinstall one of the programs, test the drives. If they still work, then reinstall the other program, and check again. If they are causing the problem, one of them will cause the drives to 'fall over'

Does Defender require some sort of setting for the drives to allow access?

Check in Disk Management Console that the D:\ and E:\ drives are still assigned

No, none of the drives are assigned in Management Console...and when i try to restore it to a previous date, it just sits there and does not do anything...

Thanks, I will try that and let everyone know how it went.

Also download autofix (search for autoplay) from microsoft and run it against each problem drive. It fixes registry entries for you. I recently had to use it to fix access to my digital camera.
