Good Morning.

As a French Multilingual Web designer/Programmer, I would
like to know if there is any system allowing web professionals to do some kind of freelance work for clients from any remote location without meeting them even once.

Does such a system already exist or is it some utopic idea
because employers can't trust people they've never seen before?

I had a close look to and I would like to
know what their competitors are and which one propose the
best options (based on experience and real stories).

Thanks a lot to the ones who will respond.

Well, the way I would go about it is advertising your services on sites like and such and as for having the employers seeing you, you can hold a netmeeting...
Netmeetings are popular, you can be in France and have an employer in USA and comunicate via netmetting... I have not failed; I merely found 100,000 different ways of not succeding...

Thanks for the reply!

What you said looks feasible but I'm wondering
about problems related to payments.
Do you have any experience of how such
remote workers can be paid?

Would I need to register to any US TAX control
organisation or such? Or is there a total freedom
in this issue?

Thanks for any future comments.

Hi again,

I don't know how it works in the US but in the UK you do not have to be VAT registered unless you earn over £40,000 a year.

Over here, to do any paid design work legally, the company should be registered to trade. You also must have a company director ans also a company secretary (They cannot be the same person.) Also, due to the law over here, virtually any member of the public who wants can access my accounts etc.

Do you have any citizens advice people or a lawyer that you can speak to about it? If you are in any doubt, then I would find out about it first.

Hope this helps Wullie

Unfortunately, I've difficulties to find relevant
information on the subject because France isn't a
country where you can get info easily (I won't
enter into the details...).
And nobody will care about my question unless I give
them big bucks...(not to mention that online free services
are helpless/dead here).

But I know for sure that french companies would never
give a job to a freelance who isn't registered to the french
tax system. Also, if registered, you have to give almost 50% of your benefits as Taxes. Then, either you have to work like crazy or you have to increase your fees what will
make you become less competitive compared to the big ones.

I was thought there were quite the same problems overseas.

Have a good day.

Hmmm, this is for establishing a company.
This is such a hassle (and such a loss of money!!)
to do so here.
I would prefer be able to earn money as an
individual working for companies overseas (US, UK, Japan,
etc...).

Anyway THANKS A LOT for your response.

Hi,

I posted that because as I mentioned, over here, to do any paid design work legally, the company should be registered to trade.

I don't know what the laws are like in France but I personally know that I would never deal with someone abroad that wasn't registered as a company. That is personal but it could be quite a risk to do otherwise.

The other option is to contact citizens advice in Britain and ask them. They will give you all the info relating to the UK.

Hope this helps Wullie
