I have no idea why I delayed doing this - but now that I have and know how easy it is, I'm sharing the idea for those that might not have taken the plunge.

If you're like me, you gotta dial into systems all over the country, and it gets expensive, if not unpredictable.

So, I got a pre-paid card (I like the link below - mine's 2 cents/min). Then you "register the card with your line" (so you can use pinless dialing)

In the Procomm dialing directory it's painless Just enter the number in this format: 1800ATTnumber,,,1TheModemNumber

So I went from paying LEC/IXC rates to Wal-Mart rates in the blink of an eye. You can even hear your minutes left before each call if you modem has a speaker.

Example of mainstream cards - your milage may vary.

When it's free, that's what I'll do too :) I probably don't have enough usage to justify the cost.

Looked it up - for AT&T in my area, it's $40/month, so I'd need to make 1200 minutes of long distance/month to beat the pre-paid's fully loaded cost. I'd say I do half that usage today.
