Customizing Outlook Today

Hello, I am trying to customize my company’s OutLook today page and wish to add a link to an Excel form. When I place the link on my page and click on it the Doc. opens with a bunch of Gobblity Gook. This happens with every type of Doc. that I link to, except for a Notepad Doc. Notepad would work except that I wish this to be an editable form.
