I have an XP Pro Laptop SP 2.

Regardless of whether I use the Touchpad or a mouse, the cursor seems to move on it's own.

It moves up to the top right hand corner and stays there for 5-10 seconds before I can take control again.

Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks

It sounds like it is time to update the driver for the old mouse.

But it happens whether you use a mouse or the touchpad..does that not rule out the mouse driver??

Thanks for the response

Have you checked for viruses or spyware?

I foundthis on a few different Dell Inspiron laptops (8000/8100 model), the touch pad assembly needed to be replaced. We'd done reinstalles, driver updates, etc -- turned out to be a hardware issue in the touch pad.

i have also seen this on dell latitude C series - the pointing stick in the keyboard was usually to blame, and a keyboard replacement usually fixed it. using the synaptics software to disable the pointing stick will temporarily solve the problem, but only if your not docked or using an external mouse.

I vote with SRotblat. Replace the keyboard. For some laptops you can replace just the trakpoint assembly.

yes, it sounds like a hardware issue.

After the game ,the king and the pawn , both go in the same box.

Had this on an Omnibook laptop. Turned out to be the BIOS needing updating (not always a good thing to do when you already have the operating system on though)

Thanks for all the suggestions guys - it'll be monday before I can test though - I'll let you know how I get on
