cuplication of desktop icons.

hi. I have TWO of every icon on my desktop except for explorer, my computer, recycle and network. also, every time I ADD a new shortcut or file to the desktop, I get two of them. if I go to explorer and to the little desktop item way at the top of the screen, I see two of everything, If I delete one, both go away. if I restore, both come back.

if i go to documents and settings all users and desktop that file is empty.

if I go to doc and settings MY ID, desktop, there is a single reference to each icon.

suggestion???

Sounds like virus related activity, have you run a full virus scan. If you don't have any software loaded you can go to this site and do a scan online.

Did you check Doc & Settings/Default User and Administrator?

Also - right-click on those Icon pairs and go to properties...check to see the path of where they are located. See if they are in fact only stored in your profile, or a mix of your profile and All Users or Default User.

If all still looks good - did you copy a profile to your profile (like Administrator)? If that doesn't work, i'd suspect a corrupt desktop.ini, and basically i'd remove your profile, and log back in to re-create it. If that doesn't work - something else is corrupted, and i'd look into reinstalling your OS just for peace of mind.
