CTRL + C do not work 1

Hi all,
A funny thing with Microsoft Word.
I write down something and want copy with "ctrl + c" and paste with "ctrl + V" but it do not work.
"CTRL + V" paste something but not what i've copied with ctrl + c.
Sometimes it appears an omega sign.... instead of the copied text.

What's wrong ?

the font where you are pasting is different to the font where you are copying

If you work with MSOffice, surely you know what a font is......you know - arial, times new roman, verdana etc etc etc

Of course I know what a font is, that's not the problem my friend.
What I do not understand how it's possible I copy "arial" and I paste "new roman" or something else.

so part of your document has a standard font of Arial and part of it - for whatever reason has a different standard font.....why not have a look and see....

Rather than just stating what it is not and being incredibly unhelpful to someone that is trying to help you out, how about giving us more info....have you actually checked one of these documents to see if there is more than 1 font in there ??? do you have style templates set up? what is Ctrl + V assigned to in your version of Word? What OS are you on ? What conditions does this happen in? are you pasting in the same document or a different one? have you tried "detect & repair" ?

The quality of question is directly proportional to the quality of answer.....

it could also be that a shortcut key (to the omega sign) has been assigned to the ctrl-v.

But as xlbo has stated more informationis required to give a definitive answer

It's really not necessary to be angry.
I'm a system engineer and I tried quite all to find a solution so that I found some questions unnecessary.
To your info:
Dell PC GX 270
Windows XP, SP 2
Microsoft Office 2003 / Winword SP1
CTRL+V = paste = shift + insert

I'm not angry - I'm asking for information to try and help you solve your issue - you, however, have been remarkably unhelpful so far.

If you don't know what the issue is how can you possibly know what information is and isn't necessary ?

are you pasting in the same document or a different one? have you tried "detect & repair" ?

I use one font in the same document ( as said before)

I paste in the same document.
I will try "detect and repair" but the problem arise with all the Word documents

do you have a document where this is happening consistently?

if so, check the font at the copy point and the font at the insertion / paste point - what font are they ?

You may think you only have 1 font - I am asking you to check this - font changes can and do happen

Can you give any more info about the circumstances around this happening? is it always the same file or files? is it the same kind of text? is it the same kind of document? is it after certain processes happen?

If you do Edit > Copy, can you then use Ctrl+V successfully?
If you do Ctrl+C, can you then use Edit > Paste successfully?

What, if anything, goes to the Windows Clipboard (Start > Run > Enter clipbrd.exe > OK) - or to the Office Clipboard (View > Toolbars > Clipboard in Word 2000, Edit > Office Clipboard in Word 2002 and 2003)?

What happens if you try to paste in a new (word) document, or a different application, other MS application?

This may appear irrelevant to you, but this information can help to narrow down where the problem is

You can do Edit > Copy in Word followed by Edit > Paste in Word
You can do Edit > Copy in Word followed by Ctrl+V in Word
You can do Ctrl+C someplace else followed by Ctrl+V in Word

This suggests that Ctrl+V is working correctly in Word.

You can do Ctrl+C in Word followed by Ctrl+V someplace else
You can not do Ctrl+C in Word followed by Edit > Paste in Word because nothing exists on the Clipboard

These two statements are inconsistent.

Leaving aside the anomalous answer above, it seems as if the problem is probably the setting of Ctrl+C in Word.

In Word, press Ctrl+Alt+(Numeric Keypad Plus) - the cursor will change to a fancy sort of cross.
Then press Ctrl+C and, if nothing happens, press Ctrl+C (or just C) again.
If nothing still happens, then press Esc to return to normality.

If Ctrl+C (or Ctrl+C followed by C) is assigned to anything in Word you will get the Customize Keyboard Dialog open at the command.
Select the key combination under "Current Keys" and press "Remove", then press "Close" to dismiss the Dialog.

If that hasn't helped at all, best come back But, please, can you correct whichever of the inconsistent answers above is wrong.

Hi azzurri,

On a different track then the suggestions above 2 possible things I can think of checking are

1. Check that there are no Macros (in VBA) setup to work as a shortcut for Control+V overriding words normal behavior, this could perhaps account for why Word has problems and other apps don’t with Control+C/Control+V combination. (Check Tools>Customize>commands>macros for any macros and then hit 'Keyboard' for each macro to see if it's assigned to short-cuts keys.

2. Also you might want to check that word doesn't have some silly auto-correct entry setup with the Omega symbol, this seems less likely to be your problem but worth checking if above has no result. (Tools>Autocorrect options and look for the Omega symbol to be replacing some text.

In File | Print - Print What - select "Key assignements". There you should be able to find out if there are any assignements of this shortcut key - and if you're even more lucky, what it does, how to find it and remove it;-)
