I am using Windows 98SE
When I press control+alt+delete on the desktop, I get the window with the programs open. When I first boot up the computer, there are roughly 20-30 programs, or "things" that are running. I understand that I only need Explorer and Systray running. Is there any way that I can NOT have those boot up when the computer does?
Another thing....just recently, my interenet connection will not work if I don't close all the "things" except explorer and systray. I haven't gone through each one to see if it is an individual one that causes it. All I know is that if I close them all, the internet works.
Here's some examples of what comes up:
Point32
Stimon
Iconfig
Rundll32
Bttnserv
Dw
Hbinst
Nrpr
Qttask

Any help would save me a LOT of time!!!
Thanks

If you go to Start>>Run and type msconfig and hit enter you can see most of those programs that aren't necessary in the Startup tab. You can uncheck the ones you are sure you don't need.

Hi jmatt
2 or 3 of those links dont work for me
but I'm giving you a star because the second one tells me about a couple of programs I've wondered about for awhile.
