I've got a client of mine who is looking for a system way out of my league, and is asking my opinion on a CS1000s. It's all VOIP - but I don't know of anyone who has this system installed or has seen one run to see if it's any good. They've got 1140E and 1120E phones, and some WLAN 2211 phones.

Any pros or cons out there? This seems to be the best solution to my client's situation - one main building where the switch will sit, and 3 smaller remote buildings connected via fiber runs all over GBit pipes.

I posted this in the Nortel section, most likely should have been here. Sorry for the cross post!

Thanks!

NETWORK ASSESSMENT, I repeat...NETWORK ASSESSMENT...works great if a proper NETWORK ASSESSMENT was/is done prior to installation.

CS1000S runs very well. As well with Rls 4.0 and 4.5
I have few of it with differents conf:
-Every equipments in same room
-Equipments split in 2 room for electrical and fire security
-Equipments split in multi zones for local TDM distribution

Some of it have also Branch Offices or SRG

In full IP environment, analog purpose can be done with ATA IP. I already installed Audiocodes and i3micro. That works fine, for faxes also, but it's an additionnal box which are not managable in the same application.

IP sets i2001/i2002/i2004 are strong devices and perfect in any situation. i2001 does't have an internal switch for PC connection. 1120 and 1140 have a better look (depending what you like) but look to be cheaper, i mean not so robust...have to see in future.

For IP recommendations, read carefully NTPs...!!!

I can add the VoIP is a new job. Knowledge have to be improve with many system installation done...and as yyrkroon says, don't forget to assess your network!!! That's a must.

After a dozen of VoIP already running, i still have to learn a large part in Data networking for VoIP. It's not imaginable to do an installation properly without lab training. You and your customer will says: "VoIP is not a stable product".

But you can have a great success if your understanding is good enough before starting

It's a brand spanking new network installation. New cable, new buildings, new fiber runs between points, professionally installed. It's all Nortel Switching equipment, looked up all the hardware - everything looks solid.

Thanks for the heads up everyone!

sounds like a dream job, i would add some tdm for backup. voip works like a charm in this box. you do still need someone who has keyboard time on the switch.. i would go 90 percent voip at my site if i could.. i am at a hosp and changes or cutting edge will never be the norm..
