I am the phone technician for my company and I am installing a CS1000 from an office we consolidated into this office that we just purchased (many states away). I have my call server operational (except for the PRI that was supposed to be installed before my arrival). I am now wanting to setup the Signaling Server and VGMC card to talk to the rest of our offices. I have a meeting with a vendor in the morning to do this, but I would really like to do it instead. And if I F*** it up then they can fix it.[smile]
Can any of you smart people walk me through this? I have the right cables and software disks.
Call Server is 4.5 Opt11

im on business travel. i dont have time for sleep (or food apparently)
i was planning on letting them do it today, but they had better things to do (waiting on cable repair man at home)
and this really set me back in time, and i fly home tomorrow afternoon. so i was hoping to get a jump on this.
if its too difficult then i will gladly let them do it, but i dont want to leave the office if there is more i can do

i didnt know there were different types...
This one is a 1U grey Nortel server.
With element manager and NRS...
Is there something specific i should look for?

You have an ISP 1100. A couple of things you need to get started. The software on CD, and a 9 pin to 9 pin cable. This just isn't any 9 pin cable. It should be black and near as I can tell is Nortel specific. I have tried other cables and from some reason I have always had to use the Nortel Cable. Oh yes, you will need the power cord too. You will also need to download the latest patches from the ESPL. Hopefully you have your IP scheme ready to go. The Call Server has 1 IP on the Elan, the SS has 2 IP addresses 1 on Tlan and 1 on Elan. The VGMC card will have an Elan and Tlan also. You will also need a node IP that is not physical. Good Luck

i have the cables, i have the software
i have the SS with two ports
i have the network ready
i have IP address in the call server
VGMC is in place, but all the documentation i found to set it up called for the element manager which i know is on the SS, which is why i wanted to get it running

Element Manager is just part of the Signal Server Software. It is the GUI interface for the Call Server and the IP network. Once the SS software is installed then Element Manager will work.

i knew that... thats why i wanted to get the SS loaded...
you are obviously no help

I hope you aren't serious but I'm definitely done wasting my night at home with you. If you are your company's phone tech then God help them. You are obviously clueless.

im not clueless, i was never in a situation where i had to do this until now.
they were all in place before me
i have the rest of the system in place, just not the SS
You never installed one until your first time. so dont assume i am clueless.
i implied you were useless because you were telling me everything i listed in the initial post
i covered all the bases, i am just looking for some assistance with the setup process
i dont need someone to hold my hand, just give me some direction
if you have better things to do, then by all means dont spend your evening on the computer, but i have an obligation to my occupation to get this system functional by 4PM tomorrow. i think i have done quite well in the 24 hours i have been onsite.
