Crystal Reports Speed question 2

We are currently using CR 8.5 and are considering an upgrade to ver 10. Can anyone tell me if, all things behing equal, there is an improvement in speed. Also any input as to possible problems would be appreciated.

I doubt it.

Usually speed issues are best addressed by looking at the SQL statements under "Show SQL Query" versus the record selection formula.

If you have a specific report you would like to make run faster, please post this information.

Opening CR (the designer, or the print engine within an application), is definitely slower than 8.5 (not by much though), but as for report performance, I haven't noticed a difference. As dgillz stated, the best way to insure maximum speed is to verify that the record selection critera is being passed to the DB... and minimize use of subreports, 'Page N of M', etc.

My experience is that Crystal 9 and above can be a bit faster than Crystal 8.5 in running some reports but it can be significantly slower if you don't first save the report as a Crystal 9 report. In other words, if you upgrade, be sure to open your Crystal 8.5 reports and save them under the new version.
