Crystal Reports 9-export to Excel with Groups

I have a CR9 report that has a group, ie: not just header and detail.

Group Header = location
detail = system info (id, serial number, contract, etc)
Group Footer = Distinct Count of system id

When the report is run there are multiple groups (ie: lots of locations). My client wants an excel output that he can sort on.

How do I export to Excel retaining column headers and grouping allowing my client to sort? Currently when I try to export (have tried many different ways) my column headers appear on the wrong column in Excel and when I leave the group in (ie unsuppressed) it screws up the ablitity to sort.

I'm willing to pursue third party software if it will work. However I'd prefer to learn the trick of CR 9.

Please note I have installed the latest service pack (SP3) in hopes that the multitude of Excel patches would rectify my problem.

It sounds like you have one report with a requirement for viewing, and another requirement for exporting, so I'd create 2 reports or create a parameter up front which supresses sections to provide the proper export format.

I did one test where I suppressed the group info and the column headers didn't match up with the appropriate column, even though the gridlines are in the proper spot in Crystal.

Ideally I want my Excel report to show:

Location
system info
# of systems at location

and still have a report footer. I only wish customer was happy with pdf.
