Crystal enterprise in CR8 and CR8.5 3

Hi,
I hope you know that Crystal enterprise is distributing reports through web. Though this feature (distributing reports through web) was there with CR8 and CR8.5 it uses only WCS (Web Component Server).
Where as CE comes with many more server components for specific tasks like Page Server, Cache Server, Automatic Process Server etc., These components are not available with CR
Secondly, there are two editions of CE (now from CR9, there a three editions) like Standard and Professional. What comes free with CR is CE Standard edition, which has got its own limitations. Of course, you can use it for developing and testing. However, for commercial deployment, you must go for CE Professional for which YOU HAVE TO PAY!!!

Crystal Enterprise8.0 is the first enterprise version. Crystal report-cr only allow user to view reports; crystal enterprise-ce will provide the capability to manage reports or server settings, role-base security and implement report schedule.
Another big difference is crystal enterprise provide you unlimited concurrent user license, which you only get 5 concurrent users with free copy, this is a big trap.
one more thing for CE8.5, not only 2 edition, actually there are 3: developer, professional, report application server-RAS.

This is only true if you buy a CPU license, which is around 50K:

There's a special upgrade offer for a 5 concurrent license version of CE 8.5 through most channels now for $8500. This allows you to upgrade the freebie version of CE 8 that came with CR 8.5, a great deal if you look at standard pricing.
And CR9 does NOT have a version of CE yet, that's due out at the end of the year, what they offer is a form of RAS.

This is not a trap. Its called marketing! Think of it as a non-expiring demo. CD included the software as a way to introduce it to you, so that you would experiment with it and hopefully come to the conclusion that it would be useful to your business.

2. What kinds of things would I expect, from an Administration stand point, of CE 8.5 from Info 7.5? What stability problems have been pretty common with CE 8.5? Are there any Administration user guides or technical briefs available?

1.) CE 8.5 matured nicely since 8.0 in that it provides most of the functionality you have in SI 7.5, like scheduling to email, ftp, disk.
CE 8 and CE 8.5 both have administration guides that are fairly comprehensive, and there's a so-so book on CE 8.5
2.) The biggest problem I have with CE 8.5 is the occasional page server error which generally is resolved with a restart. Making sure that you have plenty of resources on the CE server is critical (memory, hard drive space, CPU).
There's an Import Wizard with CE 8.5 that allows for importing from SI 7.5, so it's fairly easy to upgrade.
