Hi I have a Win Me Computer hooked up to NTL Broadband and I also have a Windows XP home Laptop. I set up a small or home network on the laptop and make a network disk to set up on the desktop (ME). It works and zonealarm pro firewall detects this and allows the network to be trusted.

I can communicate properly between the two pcs and share files. But what I cannot do is use the internet on the laptop. I have tried setting up the network on the ME and using the settings on xp, but when i stick the floppy in the laptop from the ME, it doesnt read the floppy well enough. It just makes funny sounds on and on.

I was wondering if i need to enable internet connection sharing on the ME to share the connection without changing the ip addresses of any of the PCs.

I dont have my windows me cd to install ics from add/remove progs so is there another way of enabling it?

I will add more posts if i come across any solutions or any more symptoms.

Many Thanks

Well as I say it you have two options you either configure your ICS as you need this to have more than one pc on the net.

Or you buy yourself a router this will allow you to connect more than one pc without having to rely on the not so reliable ICS.

Routers aren't that expensive these days and you could get one with builtin network ports, and firewall if you want.

Make the best use of what is in your power, and take the rest as it happens.

ICS is built in to the xp machine i believe as i have read it somewhere on annoyances.org.

When i tried to use a setup disk after i setup ics and home networking on the me and tried to use it on the xo, i got the message that the os had to be any before me to use that setup disk. so the networking disk setup could only happen from xp to me. when i do try to set ics only on the me, it messes up the file sharing on the xp. isnt there a default gateway or any other tweaking i can to to the ip addresses or use dns in the tcp/ip settings?

i worked it out. i forgot to post. i had to use some settings in the zonealarm pro firewall to tell it i am on an ics netweork. it fixed itself. but i am now back to norton firewall.

thanks
