Suppose you want to place an icon on the Quick Launch toolbar that lets you into the Control Panel, rather than having to go to Start | Settings | Control Panel each time. Here's the procedure:

1. Right-click on the desktop and go to New | Folder.
2. Rename the folder exactly as below, including the full stop and the braces: Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}
3. Press [Enter] when you've finished in order to commit the change of folder name.

The long code is the Class ID that keeps track of the Control Panel system object. Now drag the folder down to the Quick Launch toolbar to create a shortcut, and then delete the folder from the desktop. The shortcut you created is still pointing at the Class ID and so remains
functional, regardless of where you ultimately place it.

Here are some Class IDs for commonly created shortcuts:

Favorites.{1A9BA3A0-143A-11CF-8350-444553540000}
Internet Cache.{7BD29E00-76C1-11CF-9DD0-00A0C9034933}
Scheduled Tasks.{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}
The Internet.{3DC7A020-0ACD-11CF-A9BB-00AA004AE837}

Cool! Thanx.

A simpler method of doing this is on win98 and 2000, Is to right click over the quick launch toolbar. Go to Toolbars-> then select New Toolbar and select My Computer then Control Panel.
This is much easier than recording the Class ID's. [smile]

Wondering why anyone would bother with either.. Right click>SendToDesktop>Create Shortcut..

Dear All,
You probably know this one already, but anyway here goes:

Furthermore especially with a MyComputer toolbar, if you then drag the sizing bar || of the toolbar over to the right as far as you can go so only a little bit of the toolbar (e.g.MyCom) is showing, you can then click on the arrow that shows more (>>) and voila, you have your own cascading menu! Regards Jim

Wow SESaskDFC,
I seriously had always wondered what situation that option would be useful in.
If cat-skinning didn't sound so bad.... there is a phrase I could use here, that fits this situation... Regards Jim
