Hello:

I have a downlink from Cisco 2611XM to 3com Superstack switch. My lan is connected to 3Com switch, and it has 192.168.2.x subnet. I want to have one port on the 3com to be able to get one PUBLIC IP address for a file server.

Please give me some suggestions how can i acheive that.

Thanks,

Where does the 2611XM connect to? If it's to an ISP then it is configured for NAT with overloading (you are using private RFC1918 addressing). If you know the protocol that you need to reach on this server then you can configure a static NAT entry for it, i.e. if its FTP then you could create a static entry for TCP port 21:

ip nat inside source static tcp 192.168.1.1 21 interface serial 0/1 21

It is likely to be more complex than this though since you probably have either firewalling IOS or at least an Access-List to protect you from the evil on the internet (I hope you have anyway.......) and these would need to be tweaked as well.

I would be careful though as opening ports like this without some firewalling device leaves you open to attacks.

You should maybe post some more info as to what you are trying to achieve.

Andy
